Puffy Mattress Comparison Overview

We will discuss the design, firmness, feel, and feel of each Puffy mattress. Then, we’ll be able to determine who should and shouldn’t purchase which mattress.

All Puffy mattresses come with soft, breathable Foam, making them one of the best bedin-a-box mattresses.

The original Puffy is made entirely of foam, while the Puffy Lux and Puffy Royal are hybrid variants.

The price and complexity of the design are just two factors that may affect your choice. Their most basic mattress is the Puffy. The Puffy Lux midrange model is most popular, while the Puffy Queen is their most luxurious.

Original Puffy is the firmest of all three mattresses. The Puffy mattress is firm but offers contouring and comfort.

The Puffy Hybrid mattress is made with traditional memory foam. It is also the softest of both hybrid mattresses. This mattress provides excellent support and allows you the freedom to just sink in.

Support is a key feature of the Puffy Royal Hybrid mattress. It features a zoned structure to help those with back discomfort get a good nights sleep.

Puffy’s Royal premium model was made for maximum comfort. This luxurious mattress is the ideal choice for back-sleepers and people who require proper spine alignment.

Firmness and Feel Differences

Let’s take a look at the feel of these three mattresses and their firmness.

How Firm Are the Puffy Mattresses?

We rate the Puffy mattress as a 7 out of 10, making it somewhat firmer than normal. A mattress grade of 6.5 is considered medium firm. The original Puffy is therefore more stiff than normal.

The Puffy Lux Hybrid is a 6 on 10 mattress firmness scale. It is more comfortable than the traditional Puffy Lux Hybrid.

The Puffy Royal Hybrid mattress has a firmness rating 6.5/10. This mattress is still medium firm, but it will be firmer than the Puffy Lux Hybrid.

The Puffy Hybrid mattress is great for back and side sleepers. As their hips fall just enough, back sleepers will feel a nice contouring.

Side sleepers will feel less pressure. There shouldn’t be pressure on their hips or shoulders. This mattress might be too soft for stomach-sleepers, which could eventually lead to lower back problems.

A Puffy Royal Hybrid can also be used for multiple sleep positions.

Puffy Royal Hybrid’s zoned support will keep back sleepers in alignment. It will be more comfortable than the Puffy Hybrid.

This mattress should be comfortable for side sleepers as well, providing great pressure point alleviation. It will also make it simple for combination sleepers that they can switch between sleeping sideways and on their backs.

What Do the Puffy Mattresses Feel Like?

Puffy’s original mattress is extremely easy to use because of its responsive foam and soft feel.

The Puffy Lux Hybrid is similar to traditional memory foam. This mattress will slowly sink into your body. This mattress isn’t the most responsive, but, due to the memory foam feel.

The Puffy Royal Hybrid is puffy and cloud-like. It has memory foam but it seems much more responsive than that of the Puffy Lux Hybrid. While you lay down on the Puffy Royal Hybrid, it gives off a soft, pillow-like feeling.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs

The original Puffy mattress is designed to provide stability and support for those of average weight.

Side sleepers who are medium-weight won’t feel the mattress’ firmness will have their shoulders and hips hurt by the mattress.

Puffy’s original mattress should be sufficient for stomach sleepers with average weight. However, if they are heavier than 230 pounds they will need a firmer mattress.

Average weight sleepers should get the support they need on the Puffy Lux Hybrid. Memory foam is great for back sleepers as it contours well and provides exceptional support.

This mattress should be comfortable for side sleepers who are average in weight. Although people closer to 230 lbs may be able to push into the mattress too much, most people need good pressure relief on their hips.

The mattress is too soft for stomach-sleepers of average weight.

Puffy Royal Hybrid can provide a better sleep experience for people who have normal weight backs. Even individuals with back trouble may get enough of support from the zoned polyfoam.

Side sleepers less than 200 pounds can get great pressure relief from this mattress.

Those who weigh closer than 230 pounds, however, may push too deeply into the mattress and eventually experience some hip and shoulder discomfort.

People of average weight who sleep on their stomachs will not find this mattress too soft.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

While stomach and heavyweight stomach sleepers will not receive sufficient support, back sleepers of heavyweight weight may get it while they’re on the Puffy.

Due to its coils, the Puffy Lux Hybrid will be supportive for the majority of heavy back sleepers. The mattress will be too pressure-point heavy for side sleepers.

Puffy Lux isn’t suited for heavy stomach sleepers.

Due to its coils & zoned polyfoam, Puffy Royal Hybrid is suitable to heavy back sleepers of up to 220 lbs.

A mattress that provides greater support for back sleepers who are over 300 lbs may be required. The Puffy Royal Hybrid mattress won’t be able to support stomach and side sleepers that are more heavy.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

Puffy’s original mattress is the best for back sleepers looking for something solid and comfortable.

If you’re a light side sleeper, the original Puffy can feel overly hard. Puffy, which is lighter than either the Puffy Lux or Puffy Royal Hybrid, provides additional support to stomach sleepers.

Puffy Lux is a strong support mattress that will suit light weight back and side sleepers. A mattress that is firmer will suit stomach sleepers and light-weight side and back sleepers.

Puffy Royal Hybrids are supportive and lightweight for side- or back sleepers. Although the Puffy Royal Hybrid might be suitable for stomach-sleepers who are lighter, most will find it more supportive.

Puffy Mattress Comparison: Construction Differences

Before making a purchase, it’s important to learn how mattresses are made. The Puffy Lux Hybrid, and Puffy Royal Hybrid are constructed.

Cover

All three mattresses’ cloud covers are stain-resistant. They are covered with a smooth, breathable, and airy cover. They are hypoallergenic which makes them ideal for individuals with allergies.

Comfort Layers

The Cooling Cloud foam layer is the comfort layer on the original Puffy mattress. This is memory foam with cooling gel infusion.

Climate Comfort foam, which is underneath that and more sensitive and designed to aid in heat dissipation, comes next.

puffy-mattress-layers

The Puffy Lux Hybrid has three comfort layers. The first layer of the Puffy Lux Hybrid is the same as that of the Cooling Cloud. This is a layer with memory foam that has had gel added for ventilation.

The Plush Dual Cloud layer will reduce strain on the shoulders, hips, and back. The last comfort layer is called the climatic Comfort Layer. This layer is similar to the original Puffy.

This sensitive layer gives your mattress some bounce and regulates your body temperature.

puffy-lux-layers

The Puffy Royal Hybrid includes four comfort layers. The top layer is filled with cooling foam.

While you sleep, the cooling beads in this layer keep you cool and comfy. Below this is a memory foam layer with sensitive properties for body shaping and optimal healing.

The Puffy Lux Hybrid also has the climate comfort foam as the third layer. This layer serves as a moisture-wicking barrier and is humidity-resistant in both mattresses.

The fourth comfort layer of Puffy Royal Hybrid foam is made with cloud air technology.

The mattress has a zoned polyfoam that gives different areas a hard or soft feel. It is very beneficial for both back and side sleepers.

The Puffy Lux Hybrid has a height at 12″ tall.

Puffy Mattress Performance

Still debating which one you should get for a mattress?

It is possible to decide between the three mattresses based on their performance.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

The original Puffy is entirely made of foam and won’t breath as well as hybrids. It does have gel infusions in its comfort and cover layers to improve ventilation.

Puffy Lux Hybrid may trap heat because it has so much memory foam.

It does however have coils on the support layer, and gel infusions within many comfort layers. These features will help you control your temperature. This mattress is designed to keep you cool unless your sleeping temperature rises.

Similar to the Puffy Hybrid, this mattress also offers a comfortable night of sleep.

Most sleepers will find this mattress comfortable and cool due to its coils, gel injections, and soft feel.

Motion Transfer

In terms of motion transmission the Puffy Lux Hybrid (Puffy), Puffy Royal Hybrid (Puffy Royal Hybrid), and Puffy Puffy are all similar.

The memory foam tops provide excellent motion isolation.

For couples that don’t want to wake one other up if one spouse tosses and turns in the middle of the night, any of these mattresses should be a wonderful match.

Edge Support

The original Puffy features some respectable edge support. Although not the best of the three options, it provides sufficient support to most sleepers.

The edge support of a Puffy Lux Hybrid bed is exceptional. A majority of those who sleep on or near the edge of this mattress will feel supported.

The Puffy Royal Hybrid mattress’s edge support is excellent. You could notice that the Puffy Royal Hybrid gives somewhat as you lean down to tie your shoe. You should feel supported if your feet are close to the edge.

Durability

All three mattresses are quite durable. Because of its superior design, the Puffy Royal Hybrid will be more durable than the Puffy Lux Hybrid.

Off-Gassing

Any Puffy mattress will off-gas, or emit an odor, when being initially opened, much like a bed in a box.

The odor will disappear within 24 hours. All materials are certified as being ozone-friendly or free of other dangerous substances (certipur-US).

Noise

Although the coils of the Puffy Lux and Puffy Royal hybrids could cause creaking, we didn’t hear any sound from them.

All three of these mattresses are quiet, so moving about shouldn’t cause them to create any noise.

Sex

The original Puffy mattress has the best springiness and keeps us from sinking too much. Partners should be able move freely on the mattress without feeling restricted.

Because the Puffy Lux Hybrid has a slower motion, couples may have difficulty moving around. You should look for a mattress that is more responsive to your body and bounces.

While the Puffy Royal Hybrid can be more maneuverable than its counterpart, it’s still very springy. Couples will find that the Puffy Queen Hybrid is responsiveer and more bouncy than both mattresses.
